Sewing, Mr. Darcy and Traditions

I have been a slacker blogger lately. My days have been busy but I can't really say what I have been doing besides cleaning, laundry, changing diapers, etc. I helped my neighbor fix her daughter's shirt last week and now she thinks I am a master seamstress, which I am not! She asked me to make a cape for her son for Halloween. He has been really anxious for me to get it done so I have been working on it in my spare time. You wouldn't think that sewing a hood onto a rectangular piece of fabric would be hard but it has been for me, the idiot sewer. I finally figured out the hood thing last night and I wanted to do a cartwheel! I am the type of person that gets so frustrated if I can't figure something out and I will stay up all hours until I do. I have a hard time letting a project sit, incomplete, so my projects consume me! I think I get that quality from my mom who would stay up all hours painting our house because she didn't want to wait until the next day to finish it.

I got the second DVD of Pride and Prejudice (A&E version) last night and stayed up late to finish it. I have to say that I was quite disappointed. The moment that Mr. Darcy reconfesses his love to Lizzie and she confesses her love to him was such a let down. There was no music building up to it, no embracing, no gazing into each others eyes. She just says that her feelings are "quite the opposite" as they were previously and they continue walking down that blasted road. Where's the drama, the buildup, the stuff that causes the heartwrenching? I almost put in the new version just to make myself feel better but it was 12:30 and I figured I needed to go to bed.

I am so excited for conference weekend. I always look forward to hearing from the prophet and apostles. I have decided to start some little conference traditions. I want my kids to look forward to conference every six months. The first tradition is one that Andrew's sister does. She makes Cinnamon Rolls on the Saturday morning of conference, something yummy to eat while watching the morning session. Another tradition from Andrew's family is Ladies Night at Deseret Book. While the men are at priesthood, Deseret Book has a ladies night- good sales and refreshments. It is usually crazy and crowded but a fun time. An idea I got from a friend in Rexburg is pie after Priesthood. After the Priesthood session, the whole family gets together to eat pie and hear about what was taught at the Priesthood session. If any of you have fun conference traditions, I would love to hear about them.

Yay for sewing! I am the same way. I don't want to get into a project cuz then I worry about it and either give up or work all hours to finish it. Goes with my all or nothing personality.

I want to do the cinnamon roll tradition too for conference. Doug's mom does it. But Doug doesn't want me to because we end up sick from eating so many. Your kids are old enough now that you could try conference bingo. Have temples, Jesus, scriptures, etc. on it and you put cheerios/treats on every time a speaker says them. It's fun.

How cute are your boys! I love the bingo idea, we used to color the things we heard during conf. So,if we heard the word temple we would draw a temple.

I love the cinnamon roll idea.

I had a quick trip to Boise, I would have loved to see you but I was with my boss and there was no down time, I didn't bring Ryan because we were entertaining clients. Thanks for being so willing though!
