Primary Journey

A couple of months ago I was called as the 2nd Counselor in the Primary. I was excited about the call but a little nervous. I haven't been in primary since I was primary age. I didn't even know what sharing time was! I know, it's pretty pathetic. Our first month in, we were short six teachers, our music person had just had a baby, and they were weeks away from the Primary Program. I took over for the chorister because I wasn't conducting or doing sharing time and I didn't even know half of the songs they were singing! The kids were patient and loving. I would laugh at myself and they would laugh right along with me. The program turned out great because of the kids.

My duties also include being over the cub scouts. Scouting is like a foreign language to me and something about everyone in those crazy shirts with all of the badges is a little intimidating. In the last month I have experienced a den meeting, unit commissioners meeting, roundtable, a pack planning meeting and the scouting for food drive! I am getting a clearer vision of what scouting is all about and I am loving it. What an inspired program for those boys to help them become outstanding men, priesthood holders, husbands, and fathers.

I am also over the quarterly primary activities and we just had our first one on Saturday. We had a good attendance and the kids had a great time. Our bishopric and Ward Missionary Leader dressed up as characters from the Book of Mormon and we did some fun activities. I am also doing sharing time this month, so if anyone has any great ideas out there, please send them my way! I love the women I am working with and the children in the primary. I am so grateful for the opportunity we have to serve in the church and for the way it stretches, teaches, and humbles us.

Oh, if only I was in your ward. I was in the presidency in Rexburg and I miss it so much. I have told the primary pres in our ward here that I want to be there, but they don't have a spot for me right now. humph. Anyway, I am sure you are so good at Primary. Good luck with Sharing Time. I got to where I seriously loved doing it and I'm sure you will too.

Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog! Your family is adorable. It is crazy how we've gone years without hearing from some of our childhood friends, and now here we are connected again through blogging. Sorry about the root canal. They're miserable AND expensive. Hope you're feeling better soon. It sounds like you're doing a great job in your church calling, too.
