Heavy Heart Made Light

In the last two days I have learned that one of my friends just experienced her second miscarriage, another friend with three little kids is going through a divorce, and another friend has been diagnosed with Lymphoma (cancer of the lymph nodes) that has spread to her lungs and heart. All three are young, beautiful, amazing women whom I admire so much. I find myself not knowing what to do or say but just wanting to take all of their hurt away. My heart has felt so heavy. This afternoon, as I was writing a card to one of them, I looked up at the manger scene so beautifully displayed in my living room and was instantly reminded of how we are able to make heavy hearts light, turn trials into blessings, and even find comfort at the loss of a loved one. The answer is that little baby Jesus lying in the manger. He experienced all of our pain, all of our hurt, all of our disappointment so that we don't have to on our own. We are able to turn our burdens over to Him and He will make them light. How grateful I am for that gentle reminder of the reason we celebrate this holiday season.

Amber, thank you for this post. I have had some of the same thoughts go through my mind the last couple of days. Thoughts of what to do when you feel helpless, when it comes to helping those in need. Thoughts of how to take the burden & pain away from others. You are right, we can't do it on our own, yet through our Savior & a loving Father in Heaven anything is possible. One of my favorite words lately is "Hope" & hopefully each one of these women feel the sense of "Hope" right now.
