Noah's Cyst

About 4 weeks ago I noticed that Noah's adam's apple looked larger than normal. I started comparing him to other kids his age and knew that I needed to take him to the Dr. After our pediatrician referred us to an ENT it was confirmed that Noah had a Thyroglossal Duct Cyst. It is something that began in utero when his thryoid was forming. We just noticed it now because he got strep and the bacteria collected in this pocket and made it bulge. He was on antibiotics for two weeks and just had it surgically removed yesterday. It is scary to have to see your child go through something like that. I always worry about anesthesia because of all of the horror stories that you hear but Noah did awesome. The hardest part was when they wheeled him away on his bed. He was trying so hard to be brave but the tears were welling in his eyes and then I lost it. The surgery took about an hour and we were able to go home about an hour after the surgery. He got pretty sick last night from the anesthesia but today he is outside playing with his friends! It is amazing how resilient kids are! I always think about the pioneers when something like this happens. How did anyone ever survive?! I am so grateful to be living in this day and age of modern medicine and am so grateful that Noah is well.

Now he'll have to come up with a dramatic story explaining his scar. Something that will impress chics. (Andrew seems to be talented coming up with... um, shall we say, creative answers to things?)

Give Noah a hug from us:)

I'm so glad that he is doing well. I think I would have lost it too and when I was reading your story tears welled in my own eyes. We never want to see our babies go through any pain. He's a trooper!

I agree with you Amber. How did the pioneers do it? We're so glad that everything went well for Noah.
